ON/OFF

ON/OFF is an installation and solo performance inspired by the relationship between colour and emotion

Movement, colour, emotion —
what does someone see when all that was there has gone?

My motivation for this installation originated from a desire to explore how colour can be therapeutic to those suffering from dementia. Exploring how different colours can trigger or harmonise different emotions, connecting to different parts of the brain and our consciousness. If we can analyse our own response, could we learn to use colour and gesture to communicate to the unconscious mind of others?

In this installation, the performer is conducted by the rhythm of projected colours, with a specific pose allocated to each colour and then reversed, to be seen in a different light, quite literally.
